PROGRAMMES :: Music aims to prepare students for careers in the fields of music and music education, and to encourage research in associated areas. Students are offered a wide range of modules which address many aspects of music and music education. The academic study of music from both Western and Eastern cultures is an important focus of students' work. The composition and performance of music are regarded as key areas of study and development, and many opportunities exist for students to participate in ensembles

"...I was honoured to be a pioneer student in the BA and BA(Hons) programme. After five years with the music department, I was given a comprehensive, flexible, innovative and well-rounded music education which provided me a professional edge to become a Subject Head (Aesthetics) in school and presently, a music specialist at the MOE HQ. A unique feature in the music department is the personal, dynamic teaching and learning approach from the dedicated and supportive music lecturers who are recognized experts in their respective fields. It's also great fun performing in the many instrumental and vocal ensembles as well as opportunities to participate in recitals, concerts and talks by students, lecturers and local and foreign guest artists. My musical experience in NIE was tremendous and inspiring and I am confident that students would be ensured the highest professional standards after graduation...".

Koh Chee Kang, BA Hons - Class of 1997
