LUM CHEE HOO  A recipient of the Overseas Graduate Scholarship from NTU-NIE, Chee Hoo completed his doctorate in Music Education at the University of Washington. He had previously been awarded the Sorensen Memorium, Boeing, Irvine Endowment Scholarships, the Lee Kuan Yew and the Association of Nanyang University Graduates Gold Medals.

Chee Hoo’s research interests include children’s musical cultures and their shifting musical identities; the use of media and technology by children, in families, and in pedagogy; creativity and improvisation in children’s music; elementary music methods and world musics in education. He has presented his research at international meetings including ISME (International Society for Music Education), CDIME (Cultural Diversity in Music Education), SEMPRE (Society for Education, Music and Psychological Research), and at national meetings of SEM (the Society for Ethnomusicology), and MENC: The National Association for Music Education.  

As an avid elementary music educator, Chee Hoo has completed training in the pedagogical methods of Kodaly (Levels I & II) and Orff (Level I). He has also collaborated with the Smithsonian Global Sound to create lesson plans for the teaching of world musics in education.
